Sci-Fi and Fantasy Banner

Literary adventure fantasy magazine Beneath Ceaseless Skies is currently open for short story submissions.

Closes on: Ongoing
Length: Up to 14,000 words
Payment: 6 cents/word
Submission Guidelines:

Sword & Sorceress 33 is open for submissions. Stories should be the type generally referred to as “sword and sorcery,” and must have a strong female protagonist the reader will care about.

Christian outlet Mysterion opens for its next round of fiction submissions very soon. The publisher wants speculative stories (science fiction, fantasy, horror) with Christian themes, characters, or cosmology.

Horror banner
The Dark magazine is seeking short fiction in the horror and dark fantasy categories – but nothing too graphically violent.

Payment: 6 cents/word for original fiction up to 6,000 words

High-octane anthology SNAFU: Resurrection seeks action-packed military horror. Think soldiers, mercenaries, monsters, and non-stop mayhem.

Blood Bound Books are looking for entries to round out their upcoming ‘Best Of’ anthology. Any type of horror is accepted — extreme, bizzaro, erotic, weird, splatterpunk — if it’s dark, they want it!

In an intriguingly amusing turn, upcoming horror anthology Tales from the Crust: An Anthology of Pizza Horror is seeking to fill up on pizza-themed tales of terror.

HarperCollins imprint KillerReads is still looking for full-length crime and thriller manuscripts. Give them page-turning thrillers and police procedurals that grab the reader by the throat and refuse to let go.

Submission Guidelines:

UK-based publisher TTA Press is always open to short crime and mystery story submissions for their serial publication, Crimewave.

They highly recommend you check out previous editions of the publication in order to get a feel for the content. As they say: “We don’t do cosy, we don’t do hardboiled, we don’t do noir. What we do is something entirely different to anything you’ve ever read before.”

Painted Hearts Publishing are looking stories in all genres of romance from new, unpublished authors and those already established in the field.

Online speculative fiction magazine Three-lobed Burning Eye is looking out for original short and flash fiction from across the speculative spectrum. Magical realism, tales of the fantastic, slipstream, interstitial, and weird fiction are all acceptable.

Each issue of the magazine also includes audio readings, so if your story is accepted, you’ll have the opportunity to record it yourself, or hear it translated to audio for you!

    Crimson Romance is closing or has already closed, unfortunately! So that one is out.
